DAVID 'MEGGS' HOOKE

'URBAN CANVAS' - Cheltenham, VIC 2023

(See photos below)

This mural represents our ever changing landscape, specifically along Victoria’s coastline under the ongoing effects of Climate Change.

The flowing Eucalyptus leaves intertwine with a flowing landscape of sky, water, earth and fire, alternating between fresh green leaves and dried, dying ones. Spaces and sillouetes have been left unpainted to reveal the urban red brick texture below, an well recognised texture of urban Melbourne. If you look closely you can see a couple of the end leaves are charred with flame as a reminder of the ongoing global warming and bushfire crisis we face and an acknowledgement of the fragility and loss that much of our environment experiences.

This project was completed with the support of the Urban Canvas Festival and Resene Paints Australia.
