'AO2022' - The Australian Open 2022
(see photos below)
This 160 square meter (plus) installation artwork was created for the grounds of the Australian Open. The design combines the bold and colourful style of my abstract work with elements that are a homage to the genuine graffiti textures and layers of Melbourne’s laneways.
The piece had to created off-site as an assemblage of 60+ custom sized plywood panels that were reassembled in an arrangement reflective of brickwork pattern. I therefore decided to use this irregular grid to my advantage and create a more lateral and abstract reference to ‘alley-ways’ by using this brick like pattern to break up colour tones and insert panels of texture and layered graffiti styles.
Overall I feel the resulting effect is a truly unique and genuine use of the theme and space! Thanks again to my dream team of Belinda @thesocialcrew , Clare @imclarebrady & Shaun @artbyshaun_dev for their hard work in helping make this puzzle work together so well!
