This mural was painted within the Eastern Market area of Detroit which served as MEGGS’ studio base during 2017 & 2018 during ‘Murals in the Market’ mural festival. Flowing across this large 2,000 square foot horizontal wall, the artwork transforms from a sprouting branch to a decaying and burning bone contrasted with flowing colour and splatter-like movement.
This piece is a prime example of MEGGS’ exploration in duality, more specifically the theme of growth vs decay of our natural world due to industry. Which is a metaphor of the unfortunate neglect and decline that the city of Detroit has faced over time.
