The ‘Above and Beneath’ mural was created in collaboration with @templechildren at the Pāhoa Community Aquatic Center with the objective of bringing new color, movement and life to the area as part of #ActivatePuna. The design is inspired by photographs captured by Hawai‘i Island-native Andrew Hara of the raw, natural and ever-changing landscape of Puna during the 2018 Kīlauea eruption.
The 3,000 square-foot long abstract artwork celebrates Puna community unity, resilience and regeneration, and pays homage to the Big Island's celestial elements of earth, fire and water.
