'ALPHINGTON PRIMARY SCHOOL' - Alphington, AUS
(See photo below)
In 2023 I worked with teachers and the Grade 6 students at Alphington Primary School to develop two murals which would be associated with their end of year legacy arts project. I presented my work and practice to the students and then developement two in class workshops where the students could discuss ideas for the mural as well as create their own legacy artworks which would be displayed on campus.
It was decided the mural theme could represent the four school houses and their totems: Birrarung - Yarra River, Djerrang - Gum Leaf, Yanggai - Black Cockatoo and Walert - the Ring Tailed Possum. During the workshops we developed with the students different ways in which the house colours and totems could be evenly represented across the two murals.
“David consulted with the school on the final design, wonderfully incorporating the students’ ideas. He then spent several days onsite, working alongside students in bringing the mural to life. The mural concept reflected each of the school houses, with the design using native flora and fauna images. The students were so impressed and proud of the outcome, almost in awe of David’s ability to bring their ideas to life.”
