'CAN’T DO TOMORROW' Urban Arts Festival & Exhibition.
Warehouse Space, Kensington VIC. February 2020.
This site-specific and immersive installation was created for the ‘Can’t Do Tomorrow’ Urban Arts Festival that took place in February 2020 in Kensington, Melbourne. The title and theme of the piece ‘Without Change Today’ is a play on words of the event title and a message on climate change awareness, specifically the con-current effect of the most devasting bushfires in Australia’s (recent) history.
The installation is painted across 3 walled surfaces and a floor including the entrance stairway to the second level of the event space. It incorporates a 3D (CNC cut) ‘ relective peace sign icon’, designed by Meggs, mounted to the wall back-lit with LED lighting as well as 3D lettering with the message ‘WITHOUT CHANGE TODAY’ that extends onto the floor.
The artwork was designed to lead the viewers attention up the staircase, onto the peace sign and finally to the written message embracing all aspects and angles of an immersive space. The LED lighting enhances the murals dimensions and changes the mood and tone of the piece as the rooms ambient lighting changes from day to night.
