Private courtyard commission for the Banksia Ward at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. The Banksia Ward is an inpatient unit where adolescents are treated for mental health conditions and disorders. This previously bland courtyard space is designed to be an outside refuge for patients so the intention of this artwork is to make the space more appealing and enjoyable. The artwork is therefore designed to provide a balance of calming tones, nature motifs, positivity and potentially creative inspiration for the kids in need.
The design was created in consultation with the nursing staff/team and takes its inspiration from the surrounding Royal park with the intention of bringing the surrounding nature to this enclosed space, making it feel less clinical and playful overall.
